What more does a mother want than photos she’s actually in with the ones who hold her heart. This Mother’s Day, give the mother in your life the most meaningful gift she could receive. A spring motherhood session! With such a special day approaching, I decided to gift such a session to my beautiful daughter-in-law (yes, daughter-in-love) and my grandson, Ezra. The beautiful gown she chose was her wedding dress, and I couldn’t love it more. In an attempt to capture my feelings about these photos in words, I wrote this letter to Zoe.
Dear Zoe,
On this Mother’s Day, I hope it’s ok that I share that you weren’t sure you wanted to be a mother. You’re not alone in those reservations. However, the way you love and care for Ezra is a priceless treasure that I’ve had the honor to observe these past six months. You emulate a mother who loves her child selflessly. You care for him with tenderness and patience. I can tell that receiving his love in return is the greatest feeling you’ve ever known. I see it in your eyes when he smiles at you, when you cradle him, when you kiss him, and when you give him life-giving words of love.
Just weeks ago, you stood under the spring blossoms as you held Ezra close—petals dancing around you like a quiet celebration of motherhood. You wore that soft, gorgeous, flowing gown that represents the love you share with your husband. Ezra, in his little overalls, looked up at you with wide eyes full of wonder, his tiny hands grabbing fistfuls of your hair, not yet knowing how much of your world he truly is.
Those photographs captured more than a moment—they tell a story of newness and growth. Much like motherhood itself. The flowers blooming around you weren’t just beauty; they were a reflection of what is unfolding in you.
I don’t take lightly the gift of watching you become a mother. You’re learning as you go, even on the days that feel uncertain or tiring. You speak to Ezra with kindness and such love. You care for him like he’s one of the most important things in your world—and he is—as he should be.
One scripture verse that feels especially fitting for this Mother’s Day is from Isaiah 66:13 (NIV):
“As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you.”
What a sweet reminder that in the same way you are giving to Ezra, you are also being given to through all the challenges that come with this new role.
Zoe, thank you for letting me witness this part of your motherhood story. It’s truly beautiful to behold.
Happy first Mother’s Day with Ezra!
With all my heart,
Jamie
