I see the world differently through my camera lens. That may go without saying, I am a photographer after all. But those things my heart and mind want to freeze forever get imprinted upon my soul when I click the shutter button, capturing details of beauty that go much deeper than only what I see with my eyes. In those moments, it is what I perceive with my heart that makes the most lasting impression. And what an honor it was on day eight of Ezra’s life to imprint upon my heart the way he looked at his daddy, and the way his mama’s voice soothed him. I will forever treasure the feelings I observed of family, love, and togetherness that radiated from my son, his wife, and little Ezra (my grandson). They were relaxed as parents, and full of joy. They took the diaper explosion that happened in the middle of the family shots in stride and worked as a team to clean Ezra, with giggles and laughter (they are getting quite used to this by now), and resumed the pictures. They loved him intensely through their words and interactions, and I can tell you now, they will be great parents–and already are.
You can look back on Ezra’s hospital pictures here. He joined the world almost 4 weeks ago now. Time has gone by faster than any of us thought it could. Ezra’s mama made the comment recently that it is bittersweet and I couldn’t help but see the camera reel of my three son’s lives go from baby to toddler, to child, to teenager, to young men, to grown, all in the blink of an eye. How we got here so quickly, my son now a daddy, I will never know. But I am treasuring every second of it.
Here’s more about Ezra from his Mama:
Tell me about the anticipation of his arrival.
I was so excited to meet Ezra, especially to hold him in my arms and give him kisses.
How was your delivery experience?
Since Ezra was breeched, I had a planned C-section, which was very far from my original all natural birth plan. Even though it wasn’t how I would’ve planed, I will never forgot the amount of joy, excitement, and relief I felt when I heard his first cry.
What does adding Ezra to your family of three mean to you?
Ezra has added more life and love to our family. He has brought Ben and I so much joy and a type of love we have never felt before. I feel like more of a team since having Ezra and a different type of connection.
Describe his personality and the little things that make him him.
One of the excited parts of having a newborn so far is when he’s awake. It’s fun to see how focused he is when he looks at you or looking at different things around him. He already seems observant, when he’s not screaming for food.
Ezra was a perfect angel for his pictures. But things didn’t go exactly as planned. He stayed awake for waaaaaay longer than I expected. I’ve come to learn that his most alert time of the day is morning, at the precise time pictures began. It’s a repeat occurrence for Ezra–and I’m talking abnormally awake, for those who remember that sleepy newborn stage. It was after two hours that he finally showed signs of getting sleepy, which left us only a short window of sleep to capture some pictures of him alone before he was hungry and needing to eat again. It wasn’t enough time even though I had been there a while… so I returned the next week to get just “a few more” <giggle>. This grammy couldn’t resist.
Ezra and family, enjoy your sneak peek! I’m soooooo in loooooove with Ezra and his pictures!!
