The climb is always worth it when you get to see the views! Meet Mark! He’s a senior at Cherokee Trail High School who gets outstanding grades and plays sports. I loved that Mark had a vision for his senior pictures. Even more than that, I loved that we were able to deliver on it! The rock formations you’ll see in his shots aren’t an easy thing to achieve. The spot has to be right, the light has to be right, the timing has to be right, and everything has to align. And it did! Plus, the coolest thing I’ve ever seen at a senior session just happened to go right by us when we were in town: a freight train carrying double stacked shipping containers. As if this session wasn’t epic enough with those cool rock formations, we grabbed a few shots as the train passed by too. Where can I order this exact train again, please? And the perfect light as we climbed the mountain to get to the rocks? Yes, I’d like to put in my order for that too.
Mark’s a good looking guy. It pretty much runs in the family. I did his sister’s senior session three years ago–one of my favs! Check it out here. And their next sister will be a senior next year… I already can’t wait! I hear she’s got blond hair; very different from her older brother and sister.
Here’s more about Mark!
Tell me about your love for baseball, basketball, and how you juggle your sports and academics so well.
I have played basketball and baseball for as long as I can remember, so it’s always been a big part of who I am. Managing an intense schedule with both sports and academics isn’t easy though. I’d have to say the most important skill I’ve developed in doing so is time management.
Do you have any thoughts on what you’d like to do after graduation?
I’m certainly looking to go to a four-year university, but aside from that there’s still a lot up in the air for me. I’d like to major in sort of math-related field or an area that will put me in good position for law school. I see myself likely going out of state and at a college with a good mix of rigor, sports, and scholarships.
What are some of your favorite childhood memories?
As a child I loved being around my friends. I’d spend all day playing basketball, wiffle ball, kickball, and any other games we could think of. There was never a dull moment as we were always doing something.
Tell me one thing you hope to accomplish your senior year.
Heading into my senior year, I am still in the running for Valedictorian. I have worked extremely hard over the years to get to where I am academically, so I hope to finish my senior year off strong and achieve that honor.
If you could tell your younger self one thing, what would it be?
If I could tell my younger self one thing, it would be to have balance in your life. Make sure to keep your priorities straight, but also enjoy yourself along the way. You only get to grow up once, so look out for your older self and take care of what you need to, but leave yourself with something fun to look back on.
Mark, you’re an impressive guy! Have a wonderful year filled with everything that senior year should be!
