Meet Amy! She’s a 2022 high school graduate with big plans! She’s also got a heart for kids and has been a part of scouting programs for most of her life. She follows in the family footsteps when it comes to loving the outdoors, just like her brother who I photographed a couple years ago. Visit his session here. It’s so special to have siblings in front of my camera!
Here’s more about Amy:
Tell me about the summer camp you’re helping at.
I work at McNeil Scout Ranch at Peaceful Valley as a climbing counselor. Peaceful Valley is a Boy Scout ranch located in Elbert county. For the first month or so I am working with Boy Scouts (ages 10-17) teaching them the climbing merit badge. Everyday I go out to the rock and teach the scouts how to belay, tie knots, climb, and rappel. For the second month I will be a den guide and lead Cub Scouts (ages 5-10), taking each group around to the various activities. I absolutely love working with the Cub Scouts because little children are amazing and super entertaining. I get to break out of my introvert shell and act totally crazy while having a great time with the younger scouts. It’s the best summer job and I feel blessed for the opportunity.
Describe yourself in three words.
I am kind, hardworking, and optimistic.
What are some of your favorite childhood memories?
Doing anything with my best friend Emily. We met in preschool and just attended each other’s high school graduations. We have known each other for 14 years. We have done everything from crafts, sleepovers, day and overnight scout camps, and vacationing at Great Wolf Lodge a few times. My favorite memories with Emily are playing with our American Girl dolls. I have a family trip memory of a time we went up to Winter Park to ride on the Alpine slide during the summer. It was great fun, but unfortunately, our trip was cut short since my older brother fell off a slide and lost his glasses on the mountain. My younger sister did find them the next day, but both of us also got hurt on the slides. Fiberglass burns hurt! All camping trip memories are special to me.
Tell me where you’re headed this fall and what you think you may study.
I am headed to South Bend, Indiana in the fall. Notre Dame Class of 2026 through the Holy Cross Gateway program. I’m excited for Norte Dame football games! I don’t have a major declared but I’m interested in pre-law, possibly becoming a child advocacy attorney, or maybe becoming a teacher. I’m excited to leave for college in the fall to embark on my next journey.
Congratulations on your high school graduation, Amy! I wish you all the best at Notre Dame, and I hope you enjoy your sneak peek!
