High School Senior Photographer in Parker, Colorado | Jacob

His name is Jacob and I can tell you right now you will be impressed by this young man!  He’s been in Scouts BSA (formerly known as Boy Scouts) since he was very little.  He now works as a camp leader, which I think is an incredible way to inspire the next generation of Scouts.  He’s heading to Notre Dame in the fall, and although he was among the class of 2020 graduates who endured great disappointments this year due to the pandemic, he’s got a great attitude with his eyes on the future! Here’s more about Jacob.

Tell me about your time in Scouts BSA and your current involvement now.

I’ve been involved in Boy Scouts since I was in first grade. I remember having a lot of fun in Cub Scouts (1st to 5th grade) and learning valuable life skills at the same time. When I moved on to Boy Scouts (now called Scouts BSA, due to the inclusion of girls), I did a lot more camping and outdoor activities. I achieved my Eagle Scout rank when I was a Freshman in high school. I’ve had such a good time in scouting that I decided to join camp staff at Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch so I could give a similar experience to the younger scouts. I have worked there for three years. This will be my fourth, if summer camps can operate.

What do you plan to study at Notre Dame and what do you want to eventually do for a career?

I plan to study engineering at Notre Dame. I don’t know which branch of engineering I am going to study yet, but thankfully there is an exploration class I will be taking. I want my career to be meaningful to me and the wider world, but I don’t know what it will be.

What are some of your favorite childhood memories?

When I was in Cub Scouts, each summer I would go to day camp for a week. I would always get the chance to engage with shooting BB guns and archery. I also enjoyed doing the crafts with my mom. Another fun childhood memory I have is buying and releasing ladybugs each summer in the backyard. I loved watching them fly around and hopefully stay to help our garden.

Tell me one thing you’re proud you accomplished in your high school years.

I’m proud of being the STEM and Student Support Club president since my sophomore year. I learned to use 3D printers, and I’ve made many cool and useful things with them since, such as a phone dock for my car and a plastic crossbow.

How did the quarantine affect what you envisioned your senior year and graduation to hold.

I envisioned the second semester of my senior year to be filled with college visits and fun with my friends at school. Instead, I was stuck at home without being allowed to see anyone other than my family, and my coworkers at Target. I was hoping to graduate and continue to work at Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch this summer, but I have yet to do either. I hope I get to do both later this summer.

You are one inspiring young man, Jacob!  I’m so excited for your future.  I can tell it’s going to be awesome!
