Some seasons of life are loud with laughter and little feet. They’re chaotic, packed, sometimes unpredictable—but beautiful beyond words.
Other seasons are slower. More relaxed. The pace allows for golf tee times and books you finally have time to read.
These extended family pictures in Castle Pines, Colorado captured both.
The parents who raised two daughters.
The daughters raising children of their own.
Three generations, beautifully woven together in one morning session.
Four young children. Two sisters and their husbands. A grandpa with a good sense of humor and a tee time to make after the session. A grandma who kept everyone anchored and smiling. And the perfect mix of tenderness and joy, set against the soft morning light of one of my favorite Castle Pines locations.
We had to shift plans last-minute when a summer storm rolled in the night before. With some family members heading back out of town, there was only one more window to make it happen. We moved the session to morning—and I’m so glad we did. The light was warm, the kids were happy, and we captured the kind of images that will only grow more meaningful with time.
Just before heading to the golf course, Grandpa shook my hand and said, “Thank you, this was wonderful.” That’s the experience I aim to give at every session—but especially during extended family pictures in Castle Pines, Colorado with little ones in tow. Such a compliment!

Best Locations for Extended Family Pictures in Castle Pines, Colorado
When photographing extended families—especially with multiple generations—location matters. We look for beautiful natural light and practical ease. This location in Castle Pines, Colorado is one of my go-tos for good reason.
It offers:
- Mature trees with built-in shade
- Soft trails for easy walking
- A neutral backdrop that photographs beautifully in all seasons
Whether your extended family all lives locally or you’re gathering together from multiple states, this spot creates both beauty and simplicity.
Scheduling Your Extended Family Session (When You’re Working With a Narrow Window)
Out-of-town family coming in for the weekend? We can build a flexible schedule together.
For this family’s session, we:
- Scheduled a golden hour session
- Kept a morning backup time open
- Switched last-minute due to weather and still got everything we both wanted!
When planning extended family photos in Castle Pines, Colorado, I recommend choosing a primary date and a backup slot if travel is involved. It takes the pressure off and gives us breathing room in case of weather hiccups (which Colorado is known for).
Prepping Shot Requests for Extended Family Photos
It’s important that I walk into your session with a plan—especially with littles. I’ll ask you to share a list of the group combinations you want in priority order, so I can design a session flow that works for your family.
We always begin with the youngest family members first—when they’re the happiest and most cooperative.
Common combinations include:
- The full extended family
- Each immediate family unit
- All the cousins together
- Adult siblings
- Individual kids
In this session, I especially loved the photo of the three girls—cousins seated together, dresses flowing, heads leaned in close. There’s something precious about childhood bonds.
And the final full family photo—every generation present, soft smiles, arms wrapped around each other—a frameable moment pulled from the heart. This will be printed for Grandma’s house for sure!
Image Highlights from This Session
In one image, you’ll see Grandma and Grandpa standing beside two of their granddaughters—one in blush pink, one in crisp white. The girls’ sandals are kicked into the dirt trail, and their arms are wrapped tight around each other. Pure sweetness.
Another favorite: Mom and Dad holding their giggling girls, caught mid-laugh as morning sun filtered through the trees. It’s the kind of photo that feels like a memory you treasure always.
The black-and-white group shot of the entire family is filled with natural joy. Everyone relaxed. Everyone connected.
And Grandpa, holding the youngest grandchild—a soft moment before he headed off to his golf game.
These kinds of extended family pictures in Castle Pines, Colorado aren’t just about smiling at the camera. They’re about relationships. Real joy. The kind of togetherness that doesn’t come around every day.
