I tell stories.
Usually, it’s my clients’.
But today, I’d like to tell mine.
I watched them become parents.
I watched them celebrate their son’s first birthday with cake.
I said goodbye when they moved to France.
I read their exciting email announcing they were expecting another baby!
I received an invitation to travel to France to photograph baby boy number two. The year was 2020. Need I say more?
The trip didn’t happen.
I said “bonjour” with excitement when they moved back.
I helped them celebrate another first birthday.
And this week, I watched them hold their baby girl like they held their son almost eight years ago.
Now there are five of them.
And it hit me.
My job is to tell stories. I knew what I wanted all those years ago: to become a photographer.
But what I didn’t know was how deeply I would come to care about the people in front of my camera.
I didn’t know I would photograph babies who would become big brothers.
I didn’t know I would get to watch families grow for over a decade.
I didn’t know I would walk into homes and see years of our photo sessions hanging on the walls.
I didn’t know I would get to celebrate their most important family milestones with them.
I didn’t know the friendships that would grow along the way.
I didn’t know.
But now I do.
I hope every family I photograph feels what I feel when I look at their photos.
Joy.
Gratitude.
Love.
The reminder that the ordinary things in life aren’t ordinary at all. They mean everything.
I love the photos from this session.
But if I’m honest, what I love most are the people in them.
I love my clients.
I love their stories.
And I love getting to tell them.
Welcome little Lohtse (Lowt-see).
You just joined a very special family.
