Senior Pictures Percussion Session in Highlands Ranch, Colorado | Austin

The beautiful melodies that Austin played at his session brought a peaceful sound when his marimba came out.  A marimba is a percussion instrument played with mallets.  If you’ve never heard a marimba played, you should look it up so that you can hear the rich, soft, delicate tone that flows through its pipes.  It sounds like beautiful notes of air, dancing around your ears.  It’s one of the most wonderful instruments I’ve ever heard.

I am impressed with Austin’s ability to play the marimba, and how fun that we were able to incorporate it into his senior pictures.  This was a first for me!  In addition to his talent, he’s a charming and funny guy.  Here’s more about Austin:

Tell me about playing the marimba.

I got into percussion in 4th grade where I played snare drum. When I got to high school, I was introduced to mallet percussion and just fell in love with it. Enough to buy my own marimba.

Do you have any thoughts on what you’d like to do after you graduate?

I plan to go to college somewhere in Colorado and study computer science and music.

What are some of your favorite childhood memories?

One of my favorites was my first time at the marching band state competition. It was at the Air Academy Stadium, and it was surreal. I also enjoy the trip my family had to Costa Rica. The fruit was unmatched. I came back to America and suddenly all the tropical fruit just didn’t hit the same.

Tell me one thing you hope to accomplish your senior year.

I want to publish my own percussion ensemble music. And graduate too, that’d be pretty nice.

If you could tell your younger self one thing, what would it be?

I would tell my younger self to get into music composition sooner. I would also tell my younger self that he would look quite fabulous when he’s a senior in high school.

Austin, I joked with your parents that they will need to keep you home forever so they can enjoy the music that fills your house when you play the marimba.  Joking aside, I wish you all the best this year and in your bright future.
