After many weeks in the NICU with a feeding tube, she finally joined her family at home. Meet six week old Ilisha! Her name is derived from a combination of both Mom’s name and Dad’s name. It means ‘the one who is born to conquer the world.’
Tell me a little about Ilisha’s time in the NICU.
Being sleep deprived and hormonal, I felt so lost in the NICU. Both of us were scared. More uncertainty than anything else, with anxiety. The worse part was being torn between the two children. I am still nursing my two year old, so it was so hard for him, and hence for us, to be split between both of them. Amongst all this, Ilisha was the fighter. She showed such great progress every single day and let us all hold on hope. She kept pulling on her feeding tube as if she was telling us, mom, dad, I am okay. I can swallow right. I don’t need this tube anymore.
How have these first few weeks been having her home?
Ilisha’s Dad and I celebrated our honeymoon period for about ten years – just the two of us. Having each other itself was life changing. And now with Ilisha, it’s been definitely very busy to say the least. To mention, we took six days to complete watching one episode of Grey’s Anatomy, sneaking a few minutes here and there. My Mom and Dad also live with us and having their support is our lifeline!
What does adding Ilisha to your family of four mean to you?
There has not been a single moment where we have not felt grateful for our sweet, perfect, blessed family.
Describe her personality.
Ilisha is such a peaceful and meaningful baby. Whenever she is awake, she makes such a beautiful, cute face with an “O” mouth while looking around. Big brother keeps going to her, touches her head gently and says a prayer. This is what he did when he saw Baby Ilisha for the first time. No, we didn’t teach/ask him to do this. Pure bliss, pure divinity.
M Family, I’m overjoyed that Ilisha is flourishing and that your sweet family is finally together. Your little Ilisha did so well at her newborn session, and it was an honor to be welcomed into your home to share a small part of your lives with you. OH, and please tell your Mom and Dad that the savory Indian pancake they made for me was heavenly! YUM!!
