When she isn’t playing her clarinet, or ukulele, she’s enjoying the company of her sweet doggie! Meet Kaylee! She’s a talented student at Denver School of the Arts. This incredible school gives students the opportunity to major in an arts category, and choose a minor too. Their vision, in part is “to engage and foster the expression of creativity and wonderment.” INCREDIBLE! I love, love, love that our education system supports nonconventional learning opportunities, and I wish we would do it more. One of my most talented of friends went to this school many years ago too.
Kaylee was such a joy to photograph. Her quiet strength and sweet spirit are refreshing to be around. And boy does this girl have talent! Here’s more about Kaylee:
Tell me about your unique school and why you chose it.
I go to Denver School of the Arts. There are eleven majors you can choose from. I’m a band major, and I play clarinet. I chose this school because I love music and I wanted to go somewhere where I could focus on that. It’s so amazing to be with other students who love their art as much as you do and you get to make music and artwork together everyday.
Tell me more about your love for the clarinet and ukulele.
I’ve been playing clarinet for about eight years now. I fell in love with the sound, and also the shiny keys. I’ve been playing ukulele for seven years. I love Hawaii and the ukulele is such a cute instrument!
Do you have any thoughts on what you’d like to do after you graduate?
I am thinking about majoring in music therapy at CSU for college.
Tell me one thing you hope to accomplish your senior year.
I hope I can complete my senior recital for clarinet in the spring.
If you could tell your younger self one thing, what would it be?
If I could tell my younger self one thing, it would be to not worry so much because it always gets better.
Kaylee, congrats on making it here! I hope you have a memorable senior year and best wishes for your spring recital!
