We neglected it, and now the process of restoration is slow and painful. I’m talking about our backyard. Welcome to a series of posts that I’ll continue for a few days! If you stick with me to the end, I’ve got a little surprise gift. Whether you’re a gardener or not, if you’ve got a grassy lawn you’re gonna love that last post!
A Sad Death
Last summer, we got busy. Week after week went by, and the yard was not a priority. What looked like a jungle of lush green, was our negligence to mow the lawn. Glancing at the yard, it looked healthy. However, to our surprise, when we finally mowed, we discovered that the underneath side of the lawn was not receiving sun. The freshly mowed, now yellow grass revealed it. On top of that, we had a sprinkler system that was not going off as scheduled, and intense summer heat that subsequently scorched the unhealthy blades. Sadly, our backyard never looked the same for the remainder of the season last year.
This Spring
What was to be glorious excitement this spring over newly sprouting green growth emerging from the earth, resulted only in disappointment. When other lawns were beginning to grow, rather than seeing the green we anticipated and hoped for, we saw large patches of dry, brittle, packed down dead grass with no life.
The Perfect Environment for Weeds
This quickly became the perfect environment for weeds to grow… and LOTS of them! Needless to say, I’ve been weeding all summer in an attempt to nurse my lawn back to health.
And yes, the picture is of my own tool, gloves… AND WEEDS! <grin>
