This beautiful family shares a beautiful love, and they are embarking a new season that will touch each one of our hearts. Their son, J, is only a few days away from joining the Marines. If he looks vaguely familiar, it may be because he’s been on my site before! Now with way less facial hair (can this boy grow a beard, or what!?) I adore the interaction we captured of their family on a late summer evening and I loved even more that genuine moment of sweet prayer they had for their son to conclude the session.
How long have you been married?
This October will be 23 years
What does your family of four enjoy doing together?
We really enjoy spending time together doing a lot of different things. We love to travel; our kids have been to almost all the states in the US, including Alaska. We have also been to Canada, Mexico, and the Bahamas. We love to enjoy being outdoors together as well. We love hiking, camping, target shooting, and riding atv’s. We enjoying serving, too. J and R went on a mission trip together to Sayulita, Mexico with the high school ministry at our church. The kids and I have served for several years at Operation Christmas Child. We have served in VBS, animal shelters, etc.
Where is J headed off to and tell me a little bit about that from a mom’s perspective?
J is shipping out to Marine Boot Camp on Monday, September 23rd—just a few more days. He will go to Camp Pendleton in San Diego, CA. From a mom’s perspective, I am a mixture of emotions: tearfully sad to extremely proud. Sad to be saying goodbye to my son who I can still picture as my little buddy holding my hand everywhere we went when he was little and extremely proud of the man of integrity and courage that he is becoming, willing to fulfill his calling and stand in the gap for all of us. I’ll be waiting with bated breath to see how much he changes while he is at boot camp for the next thirteen weeks. We will get the amazing Christmas present this Christmas of watching our J graduate from boot camp around Dec. 23rd and join “the few, the proud, the Marines”!
Tell me about the relationship between your kids.
J and R have always been close. They laugh together often.
What is the best vacation you ever took?
As I mentioned before, we have done a lot of traveling together but we do have two favorite vacations. We went to Alaska a few years ago and really loved that trip. Another favorite was a cruise to the Bahamas that we took during the holidays last year.
S Family, it is with great excitement that I reveal your sneak peek. I’m incredibly blessed by J’s sacrifice to join the Marines. I pray the Lord keeps you close as you are apart.
