It was a warm August afternoon when sweet little Eleanor graced this world with her presence. The entire family was waiting with joy and anticipation. When they finally met her it was with tears, immediate love, and pure joy. You can see the rest of the loving family here at their session last year. Ella arrived at a healthy nine pounds, four and a half ounces. Momma graciously took the time to help me tell Ella’s story.
Did Ella arrive early/late or on time?
I had what my doctor described as a “textbook pregnancy,” but did retain a lot of fluid, unfortunately! She was a scheduled c-section last minute (two days before my due date!) because she was measuring big and was estimated to be 10 pounds! My doctor did not want me to have a trial labor due to the fact that I shattered my pelvis (among other serious injuries) from a car accident four years ago.
Where did you deliver and tell me a little about the day she was born/her delivery.
I delivered at Memorial North in Colorado Springs on a Wednesday afternoon. Everything went smoothly since we had a scheduled c-section; no hiccups along the way! Delivery went amazingly well. No complications. I was surrounded by both of my moms and my dad, G and B. G was with me during the c-section and was the first to see and hold her. He brought her over to me and said, “she’s perfect!” And of course we both cried because he was right, she was perfect. Finally seeing her for the first time after nine months of feeling her, but not seeing her, was one of the most incredible feelings of my life. The second they put her cheek to cheek with me, I cried and knew I would love her forever, with a different kind of love than ever before.
What does adding Ella to your family of four mean to you?
Ella is one of many colorful characters in our family’s story. She means the world to us. She’s our first child together, and our first girl. She brings a sort of balance, if you will, to the group. Eleanor means “light,” or “bright, shining one,” and we see her as just that. She is a bright light in our lives, and a precious blessing.
Describe Ella’s personality.
The first time Eleanor went to the Doctor’s office, they shined a light in one of her eyes to look at it. By the time they got to the other eye, she had already covered it with her hand in anticipation, and refused to move it. G had to (gently) hold her hands down for the rest of the examination. The first time I tried to cut her nails, she let me do one, and then balled up her fingers into a fist and refused to let me get to the rest.
In short, Eleanor has proven to be quite the rascal this far. She’s quick and smart and stubborn…just like her parents. We’ve already acknowledged we’re going to have our work cut or for us with her; and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
To the entire family… what a blessing she is, and so incredibly sweet! I can only imagine how delightful it will be to gather now with one more family member to contribute to the love you all share. Enjoy Ella’s sneak peek!
