Meet Henry! This guys is an incredibly talented artist and a lover of animation. I am beyond impressed with his dreams to chase his passion and venture to other countries for school and eventually a career. Don’t fail to tap into your imagination for the picture of Henry drawing next to the metal siding. His mom, a graphic artist, (yeah, art runs in this family big time), is going to photoshop one of Henry’s hand drawn characters into the scene. Maybe I’ll update the image with the final product when she has it completed! I’m excited to see it, so stay tuned! You will love getting to know Henry.
Tell me about your love for animation. When did it begin, and how did you know this was your niche?
I really fell in love with animation when I was staying in France in 2017. I was exploring colleges and realized how much I really loved drawing and it was something I wanted to do. I started to take my drawing much more seriously and began to look at the possibility of going to school for this. I love the freedom that animation gives you to make scenes that you can’t create with a camera. I love the unlimited potential to create the impossible.
What type of animation do you enjoy most?
Are you hoping to make a career out of it?
Definitely. I would love to work in Japan for any number of great studios.
Do you have your sights on any colleges in particular?
Yes. I’m drawn towards the Vancouver Film School, which was recently ranked #1 in the world for their animation program. Their graduates have included the head of animation for Disney and a slew of animators and directors who have worked on shows such as Frozen, Deadpool, Game of Thrones, and Star Wars.
Tell me some of your favorite childhood memories.
My little sister waking me up in the middle of the night to tell me that she was scared. When I asked her what she was afraid of, she said of “bears eating pop-rocks” (the sound of the rain outside her window). Playing zombie-shooter games with my best friend, Mark. Making origami with my uncle. Eating raspberries with my great-grandma. Playing modern board games with my parents.
If you could tell the younger you one thing, what would it be?
Start drawing, NOW!
Tell me one thing you hope to accomplish your senior year.
Make a few friend who are as passionate about animation as I am.
This guy! Seriously… couldn’t be more proud to say I met him when the day comes that I’ll be watching his animation on my tv screen. It’s such an honor for me to meet these students, get to know them, and be a small part of such a BIG milestone in their lives. Congratulations, Henry, for making it this far. I hope this year is incredible and stay in touch! I can’t wait to see how far you go.
