Liberty

July 4, 1776 marked a day in the history of the United States of America when a glorious declaration was given.  It was a unanimous proclamation of the liberty that we still celebrate today.

Yet, freedom isn’t free.  It came with a great price then, and we maintain it with a great price too.  We live in “the land of the free” because we are the “home of the brave”.  I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude when I consider those in our armed forces who sacrifice so greatly to protect our home.

As my mind is turned to what freedom really means, at it’s core, I realize that even in the midst of enemies to our land who want to steal it all away from us, there is another kind of freedom that exists.  This freedom of which I speak also came at a great price.  It was the blood of Jesus that truly makes me free today.

I join our country in celebration of the liberty that cost so much, while at the same time I cherish an even greater freedom.  Should oppression, slavery, persecution, and other unthinkable terrors ever find themselves in our midst to the degree the rest of the world suffers, my glory is in a true freedom that can never be taken!

Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free… Galatians 5:1
