“Talitha, cumi” – these are Jesus’ words to a little girl who had died. I am moved by these words. They go deep into my heart.
I too was dead. I didn’t have life. Until my Father said to me,
“Talitha, cumi”
Upon Jesus words to her, the girl is immediately brought back to life and Jesus instructions are to give her food.
The meaning of His words are striking. They are translated,
“Little girl, arise.”
For so many of us, there is a little girl inside that has never had her hopes and dreams fulfilled. We’ve sought love and acceptance, but deep down we would admit that we struggle believing we’ve received it.
We must, with every breath, inhale the truth that only the love of our Savior, Jesus, will satisfy our heart’s desires. No career, man, child, talent, pursuit, interest, dream, relationship, good deed, fulfilled goal or possession could ever meet the true longing of our hearts. That longing is the “life” Jesus offers in His name and intimacy we share through a relationship with Him. Life, abundantly. When He offers it to you, you will know it. He will say, “Arise!” And by the miracle of God, you will be made alive! Without Him we will only remain disappointed, depressed, angry, sorrowful, rejected, always struggling and never satisfied – dead. But OH HOW BEAUTIFUL and satisfied is the life that has been changed by Jesus!
My Jesus calls to me regularly:
“Talitha, cumi, my precious little lamb, arise. You have been given life in Me. Walk in it.”
Now I need the food of his word to nourish me, just as the little girl was instructed to eat. I need to depend upon Him to shower me constantly with the truth of who I am in Him.
His word tells me who I am:
