After Years of Waiting: Adoption Newborn Photos Welcoming Baby Eamon

Two years ago, I photographed Jess and Eddie for a session that already carried so much hope.

Even then, they had adoption newborn photos in their heart. They were creating an adoption profile album to place in the hands of potential birth mothers. It was meant to introduce their lives, their marriage, their home, and the parents they longed to be. Even then, there was tenderness in the way they carried their story. There had been grief. There had been waiting. But there was also an unexplainable peace about them — one I sensed would remain long after that session ended.

Now here we are.

These adoption newborn photos were the kind of session that makes you stop for a second and take in what this moment of celebration actually means. After years of praying and a long road to parenthood, Jess and Eddie brought home their baby, Eamon. The little boy they had waited and prayed for was suddenly in their arms. No longer in a someday longing kind of way. In a right now this is really happening kind of way.

That is what made this in-home lifestyle newborn session in Colorado feel so significant. Adoption newborn photos like these carry the weight of years of hoping and the beauty of answered prayer.

A Full Circle Moment Years in the Making

As a Colorado adoption photographer, it is not often that I get to witness both the waiting and the fulfillment. The first time we met, I told the story of their lives in a way that documented their love, their lives, and their faith. Photographing Jess and Eddie again two years later felt like the closing scene to a chapter that had been left unwritten.

There are moments when adoption newborn photos become more than documentation. They become visual markers of the important things. During their first session, they included a simple sign that read, “The Lord directs our steps so why try to understand everything along the way?”

This time, the same letter board held new words:
“I prayed for this child and the Lord has granted me what I asked of Him.”

Why In-Home Adoption Newborn Photos Matter

Adoption newborn photos can look different from traditional newborn sessions.

Jess and Eddie had brought Eamon home quickly and did not yet have a nursery fully set up. That is a very real experience for many adoptive families. So we photographed them in the spaces where life is lived — where family gathers each day, routines bring stability and strength, laughter is heard, and future memories will be made. These were the perfect settings for an in-home lifestyle newborn session in Colorado.

Lifestyle adoption newborn photos allow families to be comfortable in their own home. There is no pressure to perform. No need to wait until everything feels perfectly prepared. These sessions celebrate the reality that love begins immediately, even when the house (and sleep) is still catching up.

Standing in soft window light, Jess and Eddie held Eamon with a tenderness that felt steady and sincere. He carries his father’s family name — a quiet legacy now resting in tiny arms. Details like this add depth to adoption newborn photos and remind us that belonging is built in both history and presence.

A Gentle Presence in the Home

Another beautiful part of this session was the inclusion of Jess and Eddie’s aging pup. He was calm, patient, and completely at ease around the baby. Including pets in adoption newborn photos helps tell a fuller story of what life looks like in those early days.

Years from now, these images will show not only how small Eamon once was, but also who welcomed him home.

How to Incorporate Adoption Into a Newborn Photoshoot

If you are planning adoption newborn photos, you do not need to force symbolism to make the session meaningful. Often the strongest details are the ones that are already true.

Here are a few thoughtful ways to incorporate adoption into a photoshoot naturally:

Include meaningful items from the waiting season

Jess and Eddie used the same letter board from their first adoption session, but the message had changed. That made it powerful. It showed the distance between hope and fulfillment without needing a long explanation.

If you have something from your waiting season, consider including it. An outfit, a letter board, a small keepsake, a baby blanket bought in faith, or even a meaningful Scripture can quietly carry a lot of significance.

Photograph in living spaces

For many families, the baby comes home quickly. Not every adoptive family has time to prepare a nursery. The living room, the bedroom, the couch, the bedside window, the place where you rock and hold and stare at your sleeping child—those may be the most meaningful spaces of all.

Include details that reflect legacy

Eamon carries his father’s family name. That matters. Family names, heirlooms, old photos, or a piece of clothing with history behind it can add depth without feeling staged.

Focus on connection

When you look back on your adoption newborn photos, consider what will matter most. It won’t be how much was styled. It will be defined by your love. Perhaps that’s the answer you’d expect, but don’t underestimate it. The way you hold your baby, the way you lean in close, and the sense of gratitude you have are the meaningful moments lifestyle photography portrays.

Q&A: Jess and Eddie’s words about becoming Eamon’s parents

Since no one can tell you their story better than they can, take a moment to enjoy Jess’s own words about their journey.

Tell me about finding out Eamon had been born and you were chosen.

Finding out that Eamon had been born and that we had been chosen was one of the most sacred moments of our lives—a moment we will never forget. After years of praying, hoping, and trusting God through a long and sometimes difficult journey to parenthood, receiving that news felt almost surreal. Our hearts were overwhelmed with gratitude and awe.

In that moment, we felt such a deep sense that God had been guiding this story all along. We were also filled with gratitude for Eamon’s birth mother and the incredible love and trust she showed in choosing us. It was a moment where so many prayers felt answered, and we knew our lives were about to change forever in the most beautiful way.

How has life changed for you?

Life has changed in ways that feel both joyful and deeply meaningful. Our days now revolve around caring for this little life that God entrusted to us, and it has brought a new sense of purpose and gratitude into everything we do.

We find ourselves slowing down more and appreciating the small moments—the quiet snuggles, the little expressions, and the everyday routines that now feel incredibly special. Becoming parents has reminded us daily of God’s goodness and faithfulness. Even in the tired moments, our hearts are full in a way that is hard to describe.

What does becoming parents mean to you?

Becoming parents means stepping into a calling that we feel God placed on our hearts long ago. It is both a great responsibility and an incredible gift. To us, it means loving Eamon unconditionally, guiding him, and creating a home where he always feels safe, valued, and deeply loved.

It also means honoring the story that brought him to us and raising him with faith, compassion, and gratitude. We pray that we can model kindness, humility, and love for him as he grows, and that our home will always be a place where he feels supported in becoming who God created him to be.

Tell me about Eamon’s personality.

Even at this early stage, Eamon already has such a sweet and special presence about him. He seems very observant and curious about the world around him, often quietly taking things in. He also has such a peaceful and gentle spirit that brings so much warmth into our home.

We already see glimpses of his unique personality, and it’s such a joy to watch him grow and discover the world little by little. Every day we feel incredibly grateful that God chose us to be his parents and that we get the privilege of loving and raising him.

Adoption Newborn Photos That Preserve the Journey

These adoption newborn photos represent years of longing and prayers that have now been answered. Jess and Eddie will always hold their years of an aching heart with them. But now they hold Eamon too. A blessing beyond what words can describe.

From their adoption profile session two years ago to this in-home lifestyle newborn session in Colorado, it has been a true honor to be part of Jess and Eddie’s journey.

From the bottom of my heart, I am so grateful this sweet family shared theirs with me–again. Jess and Eddie, congratulations on your beautiful baby boy. It was an honor to photograph this chapter after knowing the one that came before it. Little Eamon is such a precious gift.
