Oh baby! She’s having a baby. I adore Erin (and family) and it’s not the first time she’s been here on the blog. We’ve seen many sessions together, including a high school senior–so you can imagine my surprise to get such a joy filled email that she and Jake, her fiancé, are expecting. This beautiful mama has already known the joys and sorrows of motherhood. To be embarking on it again is a testament to how wonderful and blessed it is to have a baby.

How has this pregnancy been compared to your others?
Much harder than my first three physically! Having a baby at 44 versus 24 is quite the difference, and I’m amazed every day at what a woman’s body can do.
And all that’s changed: the breast pumps, the baby monitors, and the apps!! It’s a whole new world.
Tell me about your excitement to welcome this little boy into your lives.
We weren’t sure this would be possible, and to say we’re grateful and blessed is such an understatement. I struggle to find words. We’ve been on this journey for a while and were willing to accept this wasn’t meant to be after meeting each other and starting our lives over again together so much later in life. All the while, neither one of us felt complete without him, and now that it’s real and we’re just around the corner from him about to be here, it’s both surreal and yet exactly what’s supposed to be happening where it’s all falling into place. He is now and will be deeply cherished. He is ours.
What’s on your “to do” list before he gets here?
Um, everything! I’m preparing to be away from my job for six weeks or more, my top priority, and we’ve got a full house and have been switching bedrooms and rearranging spaces to make room for our newest little guy. I guess this is what happens when you’ve already got five kids between the two of you! He will get lots of love and attention, and the rest is almost an afterthought. With my first, I wanted everything to be perfect; with this one, I want to just soak up this experience, and that’s all I’m focused on.
