This is actually the post I wanted to do yesterday, but decided it best to lead with the number one reason I sing in part 1. Welcome to part 2!
Years ago, before committing to seeking God through reading the Bible, I was missing something special that was waiting for me here, something unexpected.
I got to know God.
It’s been like the most treasured ongoing coffee date, day after day, week after week. I look forward to getting to know Him more, and I get giddy when I see new things about Him I didn’t know before. These aren’t things I just learn ABOUT Him, but they are also things I experience FROM Him, and IN Him, and BY Him.
Like many relationships we start off thinking we know a person, until we spend more and more time with them. That’s when their true character is revealed. And let me just say, the more the character and nature of God is revealed to me, the more I’m in awe, humbled, and in love.
I don’t think I would appreciate these qualities nearly as much if I was only told them. But because I’ve discovered them, and experienced them, they are the most satisfying things in the world to me and oh so wonderful.
Here’s what I’ve discovered about God, Who is my reason to sing:
He’s full of compassion
He’s kind
He’s love
He’s generous
He is full of abundant mercy
He is full of lovingkindness
He is light
He is the judge, and His judgment is fair
He pardons
He removes shame
He heals
He forgives
He’s gracious
His ways are perfect
His ways are higher than ours
His thoughts toward us couldn’t be counted they are so vast
He’s my teacher
He leads and guides
He resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble
He’s the Creator
He’s a jealous God
He’s the provider
He sees me
He hears me when I pray
He’s my protector
He’s a shelter
He’s my refuge
He carries me
He doesn’t break His promises
He’s the beginning and the end
He’s got things in store for me that I couldn’t imagine
He’s limitless
He doesn’t need a counselor
He is the counselor
He’s wonderful
He’s mighty
He’s everlasting
He’s peace
He saw me before I was born
He fashioned me
Everything He does is good
He loves me
He wants my love back
He gives riches
He’s righteous
He redeems
He rescues
He’s a rock
He’s GOD!
This took me only minutes to list. I’ve discovered these attributes one by one in the Bible over many years, but it resides continually in my heart and in my mind. It’s not an exhaustive list, but the more I discover, the more I sing!
If you missed yesterday’s post, it was essential for me to start with the most remarkable reason to be in awe of a God who is so so so good. It is the necessary place for anyone to begin in pursuit of God. You can go back and read it here… and I hope you will!
