High School Senior Pictures in Centennial, Colorado | Katelyn

Meet Katelyn!  There isn’t much that she doesn’t have her hand in: soccer, singing, dancing, musical theatre, an interest in the medical field, 80’s and 90’s fashion, and a love for all things British (since she lived in Britain for 5 years).  So admirable!  Here’s more about Katelyn,

Tell me about being your interest in studying biomedical engineering.

I have always been interested in the medical field as a career and knew that in order to make that come true I would need an undergrad degree and med school. Knowing that I started to look at undergrad degrees that I was interested in, that would get me the requirements and classes for application into med school and would provide job opportunities should I change my mind and I landed on biomedical engineering. It seemed to check all the boxes and I became really interested in the subject: how it allowed me to keep learning math (which I happen to be gifted in) and give the requirements for med school.

How has the pandemic changed your thinking about school, your future, or just life in general?

During this pandemic everything that seemed to be true or promised changed without warning and I couldn’t do anything from where I stood, so in the future I just need to prepare and be ready for change at any instant. This pandemic has also changed the way I think about my future role and job in this world. If I truly want to go into the medical field I have to be ready to put other people’s lives before my own and even their lives above my family’s. It’s got me thinking about all of the questions and doubts that will come from this in my career path.

Do you have any thoughts on what you’d like to do after you graduate?

The plan right now is to take a final trip with my Girl Scout troop to Italy and Greece as a send off as we reach the end of a journey with each other. Then, go to university.

Tell me one thing you hope to accomplish your senior year.

I hope to accomplish a consistent mindset of calm and happiness, because this year is full of uncertainties so instead of worrying about the future and/or the present I will just enjoy the ride until it’s time to get off in May.

If you could tell your younger self one thing, what would it be?

Listen and believe in yourself. There have been so many times that I have doubted what I thought was right due to someone else’s opinion, whether it be from the right shirt to get at Target to how I should think about an issue. So, just go with your gut and if it ends up being wrong or turning out bad at least there is comfort to know that it was your own choice rather than the pressure of someone else, because ultimately it’s your life and if you keep living it by someone else’s standards it will never feel like your life.

Katelyn, your fashion sense brought so much to your session!  I loved your outfits and everything we captured.  I hope your senior year is amazing and filled with the mindset you strive to keep of enjoying it no matter what’s thrown your way.
