This family is simply amazing. They love each other fiercely, they love the Lord, and they love others. Meet the D’s!
How long have you been married?
18 years and 127 days, but who’s counting! 🙂
Where did you meet?
It all started with a handshake at Gideon Baptist Church in Fountain, CO in 1994! A (dad) had been going to church there for about 2.5 years with his family, but L (mom) had no idea what she was walking into! She came to church somewhat grudgingly, because she was “dragged” by her mom and step-dad. She grew up in Utah going to church with her cousins, and to her, “church was church was church” and she didn’t want any “religion” in her life…what she found at Gideon Baptist from the preaching of the gospel was NOT religion, but a real relationship with God through accepting Christ as her Savior…. she came to church, and when she walked in, a number of teenagers said hi and welcomed her, and there was this one guy, “A”, that came and shook her hand. A thought she was CUTE, and she thought the same – there were a LOT of arguments, “frenemy” scenarios, etc., but in those next few years while going to high school together and living in the same neighborhood (A’s dad actually taught L how to drive), they became best friends, took a mission trip together that changed their lives, and eventually found themselves at the same Bible college, and a year later at 19 years old, they were married! Outside of the life changing experience of knowing Christ, each would say finding each other was the best thing that happened to these two!
What does your family enjoy doing together?
Working on the family hobby farm, watching football, family pizza and movie night, ministering in our church together, singing together, playing games (all are competitive here), discussing history/politics, finding new favorite restaurants, picking on each other, and the list goes on!
What is your home like with three daughters?
NEVER BORING – lots of emotions, lots of discussions, AMAZING….every stage is awesome to be a part of. From the eight year old that is still dancing around the house like a ballerina, to the teenagers learning how to drive, how do to “life”, constantly changing and finding what their place in life is, and what the Lord wants them to be, it has been rich and fulfilling! No doubt it can be challenging at times, but with the direction from God and his word it has allowed us to see the Lord shape his own character in each of their lives. The answers to all the questions that an eight year old girl has versus a seventeen year old young lady, are all found in God’s word! We wouldn’t change a thing!
Tell me how homeschooling has enriched your family and your lives.
We love watching the “lights” come on for the kids…knowing that from the time they were three or four years old, Lacey has had a part in teaching them not only how to read, but how to see the world around them on their own. Every child views the world through some kind of prism, whether through pop culture, friends, family, etc. The biggest blessing is that they think on their own, but also that they are starting to see the need to view the world through a biblical prism. The kids have really thrived off of learning about real people who have sacrificed their lives for the work of the gospel of Christ around the world. Missions has been a big part of their everyday learning. Their ability to tell stories and their passion for learning, even while some days have been long and hard (primarily for Lacey), has been a huge blessing in our lives.
What do each of your girls enjoy doing?
A (oldest) – piano and cello playing…and raising goats and her new black lab puppy. She is praying about going to Bible School (same school as her parents) in a year-and-a-half and desires to be a missionary.
B (middle) – violin playing, horse riding (competes in 4H), showing horses, and being a secretary in our local 4H. She also loves to bake!
E (youngest) – Playing the violin, learning how to ride her horse and showing in 4h, LEGOS (she LOVES to build things), and really anything that allows her to put her building and creativity to work!
D Family, it is with great joy that I reveal your amazing sneak peek! I hope (and think) we did it just like you envisioned!!
