couples welcome & style guide
welcome
Whether you're celebrating a big life moment, an anniversary, engagement, a baby on the way, or simply the love you share, I’m delighted to photograph the two of you! I’m passionate about what I do, and I’m excited to meet you!
My sessions are laid back yet orderly because I come with a flow in mind. My style includes a variety of posed and unposed moments. If you're nervous, I want to put your mind at ease. You don’t need to know anything about the process. That is why I’m here! Before the session I will help you prepare, including what to wear. At the session I’ll direct every moment!
COLD WEATHER
If your session is in the spring, late fall, or winter, here is my best tip for keeping warm: Layer, layer, layer!!!
In cold weather, it's always a little cooler feeling than you think it will be because we primarily stay in the shade and it gets cooler the closer we get to sunset.
Your layering should be under your stylish outfits. Did I mention you should layer? Even when you think you will be hardy (we're Coloradans after all, right?), you will be much more engaged when you're warm. Here are a few ideas:
~Add a t-shirt, tank top, or long sleeve shirt under outfits
~Double socks
~Long johns
~Stylish warm vests
~Stylish warm hats
~Hand warmers
Rather than bringing coats to stay warm, I find we can move a little quicker and with less effort if you bring blankets to wrap up in between shots. I will have a wagon to help you carry these items.
Next, please follow the simple steps below to help both of us prepare for your session.

wardrobe
One of the most important things to consider when making wardrobe selections is your surroundings. Choose colors that will contrast the environment and won’t blend in too much with your backdrop.
For example, in the spring and summer there's a lot of green. Avoid green. Instead choose colors that compliment green and will help you stand out.
In the later fall and winter when it's no longer green, deeper hues are nice to help you stand out among the yellows and browns. Avoid too many tans, grays, and neutrals this time of year. Instead, choose deeper and richer versions of your favorite colors.
When choosing colors for other times of the year, I recommend more muted shades rather than bright or bold.
Choose contrasting colors that will compliment one another. Think about including a mix of prints and solids. Small prints work well. A helpful way to figure out the color scheme for your session is to start with a print you love and select colors to wear that are found in the print.
Consider a variety of fabric types, textures and patterns that will add visual interest. Think furs, laces, cottons, leathers, suedes, etc.
Avoid pure white and solid black. Avoid bright colors (no magenta or red) and large patterns, like stripes.
Consider what you will love hanging on your walls all year long that are complimentary to your home (without being too matchy to your decor). Beginning with the end goal in mind can have big rewards.
FOR HER
Have you been eyeing a gorgeous dress, but never had an occasion to wear it? This is your chance to do it up! You'll never be too dressed up for your pictures. A gorgeous gown would make you look and feel like a million bucks. Dresses and skirts tend to look stunning on camera because they really flatter the female body - all body types! Maxi (or floor length) skirts and dresses will give us the best "twirl factor" adding romance to your walking photos and look especially gorgeous when contrasting nature, or even an urban setting. Cute, shorter cocktail-length dresses or midi skirts photograph beautifully as well. If you're considering two outfits, you could choose one of each! I recommend avoiding pants and shorts for your session and saying yes to the dress (or two)! You won't regret it.
If you don't want to spend a ton of money adding a permanent piece to your wardrobe, there's a great website for gown rentals called Rent the Runway where you can send the outfits back after the session. Look it up if you're interested!
For shoes, keep in mind that heels elongate women’s legs and force constant tension in the calves –– which makes them look more toned. Closed-toed heels, in particular, look great on camera because they carry out the line of your leg all the way down to your toe. You can never go wrong with a pair of neutral pumps! If your toes are showing in a peep-toe heel, you might want to schedule a pedicure before your session so you don’t regret letting your toes show. If your shoes don’t show at all in the dress you’ve selected, you could always choose neutral ballet flats to make your session more comfortable. Lastly, feel free to bring a pair of flats/flip flops to wear when moving from place to place if you'd like.
FOR HIM
The same way that a dress is the most flattering silhouette for the female body, a blazer, sport coat or jacket has the same flattering effect for men. You can’t go wrong with a dress shirt, slacks and a blazer.
Long sleeves are more flattering than short sleeves on men, so I'd recommend steering clear of t-shirts or polos, and instead opting for a long-sleeve button-down. The other benefit to long sleeves is we can roll the sleeves up for a slightly more casual look, which gives you two looks with one shirt.
When selecting your pieces, choose a different color for the pants and coat. For example, consider navy pants (darker) and a heather gray blazer (lighter) or gray pants (darker) with a soft powder blue shirt (lighter). Combinations like these pair really well!
When selecting an outfit for photos, the most important element is the fit. For men, it’s important to have a jacket that fits snugly (but not too tight), and pants that are the correct length and don’t have too many breaks. Just like high heels make women look taller than they are, bunched up fabric stacked on top of a man’s shoes makes him look physically shorter than he really is.
Solid colors will help keep the attention where it belongs, whereas pinstripes or plaid patterns tend to distract the eye, so stay away from busy prints, avoid logos, and opt for solids instead.
The next time you walk by a store like J. Crew or Banana Republic, you’ll notice the male mannequins and models are wear several layers at once. Layers on men look great on camera, so even when it’s hot outside, it’s worth an hour or two of discomfort for photos that will last you a lifetime. Adding extra layers will bring additional dimension and visual interest to your photos. If the temperature permits, you could even consider adding a v-neck sweater with a pop of color from a long-sleeved collared shirt and tie underneath, or bringing a leather or denim jacket with you. Don’t be afraid to get a little creative with layers.

03
questionnaire
Finally, below the FAQs section you will find a questionnaire. Please be sure to complete each field. It will help me plan for our time together!
FAQs
how long will the session last?
Plan for an hour to an hour and a half. It depends on the location and how much walking around we do.
when will you send the location address?
I will check in with you the week of your session and provide an address at that time so that everything is handy in your inbox.
should we bring anything?
If you'd like, a small beautiful bouquet of fresh flowers to hold would add a lovely touch, or a small blanket to sit on. Please let me know if you plan to bring these, or other small props so I prepare in advance.
can we bring our pet(s)?
You may bring a pet if you'd like. However, I will request that a separate pet handler come along to be responsible for your animal when he/she is not in the photographs. If you decide to bring your animal, please let me know below, and do bring treats!
Can we bring an outfit change?
Yes! One outfit change is fine. If you're planning on an outfit change, please indicate this on the questionnaire below so I will know to bring a pop-up changing tent.
should we wear our glasses?
To prevent glare, if it is an option not to wear them, then don’t. If you are simply not yourself without them, then by all means wear your glasses! However, try taking the lenses out if they are made to do that, especially if you have transition lenses (the kind that darken in the sun).
what if the weather is bad?
In the event of inclement weather (rain, snow, extreme wind) we will either move your session to a different date, or consider an earlier start time. I will be watching the weather closely as your date approaches so we can be as proactive as possible.
do I need to sign a contract?
Yes! Once I've received your completed questionnaire, I will send you an online contract that can be signed digitally.
when is payment due?
Payment is due at the time of the session. Please indicate your payment preference on the questionnaire. I will send you the appropriate invoice right before the session.
are the images edited?
Yes! Every single one of your images is professionally edited to brighten and enhance.
how soon will I receive my images?
Your images will be delivered within 2 weeks of your session.
what if I have more questions?
Feel free to include them on the questionnaire, or reach out by email.
